My last culinary adventure was a safe, but failproof journey. Rose and I hosted a group of friends last Wednesday evening, and since I was feeding nine people I decided to go classic. Cheeseburgers, balsamic glazed asparagus, and sweet potatoes spiced with peppers in adobo sauce. I bought a key lime pie for dessert. The flavors ended up being ok, but not my best work. I burnt the burgers because I tried to do too many things at once.
My next excursion will be soon, but I have yet to decide where I'm going.
In the yard, I got grass that looks good, but requires mowing two days a week. I feel like I pull or spray weeds everyday and still can not keep up. The roses around the house are coming out and they are always a nice sight.
A Worldly Connection.
Food is one of the most effective ways of bringing people together. We all have to eat and, for the most part, we all enjoy good food. How many other things in life bring people together in such a natural way? Additionally, cooking (my favorite part) is more fun when you are preparing a meal for a group.
While being an adult does have its perks, it comes with its share of constant responsibilities. Doing yardwork reminds me of this constant struggle. In high school I could not wait to go to college, and once I got to school, I found myself missing the ease and simplicity of high school. Towards the end of college I anticipated getting a job and buying a house and having my own stuff. Now that I have all of that, I reminesce on the ease and freedom of college. I always tell my students not to wish away the present because once it is over, it is never the same. As an adult, there is always something that needs to be fixed, updated, paid for, planned, improved etc..
Enjoy good food, friends and youth.

When you try something new, you must be prepared to fail. You must have some reserve left in the tank for a second attempt or a change in focus. My recent gardening experience reminded me of this truth, as I impatiently watched nothing grow from the 27 seeded pots. In this light, my reserve energy will retrain itself towards tasks that provide room for growth, but also better meet my abilities. There may be some gardening sprinkled in, but the majority of my entries will deal with summer cooking, lawn care, and a general summer state of mind.
Next up: Weed control, BBQ chicken with roasted vegetable orzo, and possibly, new planting!

Hi All,
This is my first blog post ever and I am rather excited. The subject of this blog will primarily focus on my (cross your fingers) herb garden and other subsequent domestic outdoor adventures. However, my mind often wanders towards thoughts about life and it's complexities, so be prepared for the occasional meandering.
